You’re not supposed to stare at the sun, they say, but staring at the setting sun is good for your eyes, from what my mother would say.
I like to stare at the afternoon sun. I really do. Rising sun? I think my mother said staring at that is good too. I don’t know if she’s right, but it’s definitely less bad to stare at it compared to the afternoon sun.
Speaking of which, it’s up right now. You can see it blazing. Let’s stare at it. Let’s stare at it. It’s not good for you. Let’s stare at it. “What’s the point?” you might ask, since it’s not good and it’s not even bad for you, but it’s because I want to stare at it! I like to do that.
“Why?”
I don’t know. Why not?
“You tell me.”
I can’t.
“Your eye is melting like candle wax.”
I’m aware.
“You won’t stop?”
No, I will not.
“Oh well.”
Oh well indeed. It’s pointless for you to argue. It’s pointless for me to stare. And it’s pointless for me to look away. You may as well join me.
“It’s pointless for you to ask.”
You make a great point.
“How can I make a point when you say that everything is pointless? How can I make any point, let alone a ‘great’ point? Where did it come from?”
I don’t know.
“Do you know anything?”
No.
“Did staring at the afternoon sun fry your brain?”
Probably.
“Are you like this because your mom stared at the setting sun?”
No, she didn’t do that till decades after I was born. I haven’t seen her for a while.
“Then why are you like this?”
I tried asking her things like that. No good answer, she told me not to think about it.
“So you really don’t know? There’s no way of finding out?”
No. Why are YOU like this?
“What do you mean?”
Why are you a disembodied voice?
“…”
See, that’s my point.
“…”
…
“…”
Wow, pretty hot today, isn’t it?
“…”
I think I’d like to never think again. Wouldn’t that be nice?
“…”
Yeah, nice to see that we agree. And you stopped before I did. I guess you’re one step ahead of me.
“…”
Nothing else to do. Nothing else to do at all.
“Find out why we’re like this?”
Nah. Let’s not. No point. It’ll make sense for a minute or two, but then it’ll make less sense than it ever did.
“Hm. I agree… I think.”
Don’t think. Waste of time. You were doing so well too, with the quiet and non-thinking.
“Agreed… I think.”
Stop that.
“Okay.”
…
“…”
